The proposed playground for North Otter Elementary would have structures for older students and be more accessible.

A new market in Aldergrove on June 22 will raise money for the North Otter Elementary inclusive playground fund.

The market runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Home Hardware store, 3147 272 St., on Sunday, June 22.

"Proceeds from the event will be donated to North Otter Elementary School to help build an inclusive playground, ensuring that every child – regardless of mobility – has a safe, accessible space to play with their friends," said Ashley Sturtevant, one of the organizers.

This family-friendly, community-driven event is being hosted by her company, Perfection Cleaning, and Aldergrove Home Hardware with support from FreshCo Aldergrove, Save-On-Foods Aldergrove, and Super Save.

The market will have food, live music, and local vendors. Sturtevant said there's room for more vendors. Organizers can be contacted by emailing aldergrovecm@gmail.com.

The funds raised are being administered by the ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ School District Foundation which can issue tax receipts for donations. The foundation has a Canada Helps online fundraising campaign which has, as of June 5, brought in just over $28,000 with the overall total raised about $36,000. The playground cost is $50,000 and the campaign runs until June 30.

North Otter Elementary has seen significant growth in recent years and currently has about 400 students. The school has one of the largest catchments in the ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ School District. But the school only has a small park for the youngest students. The goal is to create an inclusive playground for all ages as well as the community.
