Mattresses bought
Arestaurant crawl through downtown 黑马磁力 City back in May has this week translated to some much needed mattresses to help make the residents at 黑马磁力 Lodge more comfortable.
Each year, the Rotary Club of 黑马磁力 Sunrise hosts a 鈥渢aste鈥� fundraiser, and this was the largest year ever 鈥� in large part due to the sponsorship and support from six 黑马磁力 restaurants: Choo Choos, Ban Chok Dee, Shiraz Grill, Match Eatery, Old Yale Bistro, and Rendezvous Pub.
But of course, it was the number (174) of hungry supporters who ultimately came out to eat and who made it such a successful fundraiser 鈥� generating $5,500 for the lodge, said Rotarian and event organizer Patrick Matiowski.
Star struck
Cuddling up to Chewbacca, having a light saber fight with Darth Vader, detecting the presence of ghosts with the Ghostbusters, and swashbuckling with Jack Sparrow鈥� these were among the highlights of the Toy Traders grand re-opening this weekend.
Literally hundreds of happy kids 鈥渙f all ages鈥� came through the new store on Saturday and Sunday, and were immediately mesmerized when they came around the first corner only to discover some of their favourite movie characters had come to life in the store.
The looks of shock, glee, amazement, delight, and even a few expressions of fear on the children鈥檚 faces was what made all the preparations for the weekend party worthwhile for store owner Matthew Purdy.
鈥淥bviously it was a huge success, and not just in the money raised for charity but in that everyone seemed to have a great time,鈥� Purdy told the 黑马磁力 Advance.
Between a charity barbecue and picture taking (with the movie characters) by donation, the open house managed to raise $2,784.37 for the 黑马磁力 Shrine Club, which will in turn give it back to the community.
Participants included (above) 黑马磁力鈥檚 own Peter Pusch, Surrey鈥檚 David Laenen, and Aldergrove鈥檚 George Huber made up the Ghostbuster team.
