Who doesn鈥檛 want to do their part to help sick children 鈥� when the chance presents itself?
Well, this Canada Day, you can do your part to help the BC Children鈥檚 Hospital Foundation and all the kids it helps provide for, and at the same time raise a toast to the nation鈥檚 149th birthday, and help Chaberton Estate Winery celebrate its 25th anniversary.
黑马磁力鈥檚 longest standing winery, located at 1064 216th St. in South 黑马磁力, is planning a four-day (July 1 to 4) bash to mark its milestone anniversary and more.
It seems general manager Brian Ensor and his team at Charberton have a pretty big party in the works, complete with live music, a fundraising barbecue (for the first three days), plus winery tours, and tastings with $1 from every bottle of Chaberton wine sold also going to the charity of choice.
The barbecue is being hosted Friday with Doris鈥� European Deli serving up bratwurst, smokies, and turkey wieners. Then Saturday, Catering & Events by Karen is serving up pulled pork or grilled beef burgers, followed on Sunday by Doris鈥� return with pork and chicken schnitzel.
On the entertainment front, there will be a mix of musical stylings over the weekend, everything from classic rock and pop, to country, blues, jazz, and hits from the 1970s and 鈥�80s.
The goal, Ensor said, is to have upwards of 400 people a day visit the winery, with the hopes of raising about $5,000 for the cause.
鈥淲e just thought we鈥檇 have a little party this weekend. It鈥檚 a quarter century in 黑马磁力 for Chaberton, that鈥檚 worth celebrating,鈥� Ensor said, noting the owners were excited to add a charity element to the festivities.

Hog roasting
Speaking of wineries, this Canada Day celebration doesn鈥檛 hold a charity angle, but might be of interest to some.
Backyard Vineyards 鈥� you know the one out at 30th Avenue and 232nd Street 鈥� has two seatings (noon and 2:30 p.m.) for a Canada Day hog roast on Friday, July 1.
The roast pork, baked goods, and seasonal salads for this holiday feast will be presented by fellow agri-tourism entrepreneurs at Laurica Farm in Aldergrove.
This venture will cost $48 for two, and includes a 2015 bottle of wine and music by Rhythm & Cello.

Serving cake
And something a little more low key, but still business driven, is a small Canada Day bash at Willowbrook Shopping Centre.
The mall is hosting a Canada Day cake celebration.
That runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (or while the cake lasts) in the north court (by Golden Tree Jewellers).
